Tampa Bay Rowdies choose Victims of Circumstance for 2013 soundtrack

We are proud to announce that the Tampa Bay Rowdies professional soccer team has chosen VoC for their 2013 Fall season soundtrack. They will be using “This Riot Used to be a Party” in their commercials which will air on 97X, our music will be played during games, and we will most likely play a concert on the field after an upcoming game!

Crisis in Hollywood plan a 3 year reunion show

Financial Records Alumni, Crisis in Hollywood, will be playing a reunion show on Friday August 16th at the Social in Downtown Orlando. Tickets are $5 and the show is 18 and up. This will be a three year reunion for Crisis, after parting ways in 2010, each member went their own way, some to different states, some to different bands. The reunion show will be a single show for the time being, but who knows … There may be more int he future.

Victims of Circumstance Release “Decades” Covers album

2012 came and went in a flash. We recorded, we toured, we kicked some ass! Hopefully some of you got to see us say goodbye to 2012 at our New Years Eve Show with Less Than Jake.

For 2013 we’re gearing up for another action-packed, fun-filled year and we promise to keep you posted on the details as they develop.

For the first part of the year we plan to keep the schedule light so we can write and record our 4th studio album. If all goes well we will have a shiny new album out for summer!

Whenever we start writing new material we have a habit of laying low for a while. This time we wanted to give our fans a little something to tide them over before we slipped away to start working on new songs. If you haven’t seen it already, head over to the vocska.com store and check our new EP “Decades”:.

The new release features a song from each era in rock history. Buddy Holly to Weezer – 50′s pop to 90s grunge and beyond.

While we were working on songs for the EP another little unexpected surprise came out of it, quite by accident. We listened to hundreds of records and learned dozens of songs. Finally we narrowed it down to the 5 songs that would end up on the EP. But, when we were all finished, there was one more song that we had so much fun re-working that we just couldn’t let it go. So, while it doesn’t really fit the EP, we didn’t want to see it lost in the VOC vaults forever. That little gem is “What Makes You Beautiful” made famous by a group of young men called One Direction but made cool by us.

All Night Wolves ink deal with Financial Records and release single off their debut album

Formed by Mighty Mighty Bosstones saxophonist Johnny “Vegas” Burton, Jacksonville Florida’s All Night Wolves have been gigging since 2010. Now after five months of recording they are set to release their first album in March.

 

When Burton moved to Jacksonville a few years ago he set out to start what he called a “Cocktail Ska” band in line with his B-Tone roots. But the Bosstones were always as much a hard rock band as a ska band and he soon found himself inspired by the sounds of southern soul and southern rock. Burton plays sax in the Bosstones but he has always been a guitar strummer, so he picked up a bass and started writing tunes. It took a while, fits and starts, members coming and going, late night gigs, dive bars, clubs, road houses, heckling and heavy drinking but eventually he put together a band made up of the best players in town.

In anticipation of the album the band has released a single, Repressed. They chose the song because it encompasses many of the elements that make up the All Night Wolves sound, hard rock, punk, southern soul and strong female and male vocals. It also reflects the themes that inspired Burton and the band to write the album; regular people living in a time when war, Wall Street and corporate sponsored politicians have sucked the energy out of their country. The album, co-produced by Burton and Citrone, and recorded in Jacksonville’s Dawg Haus Studios will have nine tracks. Songs range from slow, soulful rockers to blazing punk scorchers.

Based in Clearwater Florida, Financial Records has released four albums by The Wolves new label mates Victims of Circumstance, including the recent “Decades.”  The label has also released albums by Crisis in Hollywood and Sit on It, as well as several singles and compilations. The label is centered around its own half million dollar recording studio, Audio Impact, a favorite of many artists in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area scene.

3250527156-1-e1358469589629Up-and-coming Florida punk/ska label Pinhead Records have revealed the tracklisting and released a teaser video for volume 7 of their long-running compilation series, entitled “International Punk Rock Superstars.” The comp will be free to download and will feature songs from Sit On It, Fairbanks, Victims of Circumstance, The Mondales, Uniforms, and a bunch of other awesome bands.

Sit On It Debut Album Reviewed by Dying Scene

For those who are otherwise unaware, Sit On It is the Fonz-irifically named one-man-band alter-ego of Clearwater, Florida-based Andy Wambach. I was admittedly a tad on the apprehensive side when the band’s “We Used To Be Progressive…We’ve Never Been Civilized” full-length ended up in my inbox. The continued decline in cost of above-average-quality recording software means that every Tom, Dick or Harry with a First Act guitar and Kmart Blue Light Special laptop can effectively become a one-man-band, digitally releasing decent-sounding (if poorly composed) music in prolific fashion. This ongoing technological revolution has the ability to be a real game changer for the music industry, but it also has the more-likely potential of flooding the market with lots and lots of crap.

 

Sit On It is not crap. (Feel free to use that sentence in your promotional material.)

 

Released by upstart Florida-based Pinhead Records, “We Used To Be Progressive…We’ve Never Been Civilized” is thirteen tracks of well-composed pop-punk that takes much of it’s influence from the skate punk era that hit nearly twenty years ago. It is beyond worthy of note that Wambach not only composes and plays all of the music, he does it pretty damn well.

 

Wambach has got the pop-punk formula all but nailed down. Plenty of “whoa-oh-ohs” abound, although there is a noticeable lack of genre-trademark anthemic, chantalong choruses. Vocally, Wambach evokes a hybrid of a young Dexter Holland and a young-ish Jordan Pundik. It’s that kind of voice that comes across as sincere but edges dangerously toward the line marked “annoying,” because I swear I hear a hint of Auto-Tune in the pitch changes from time to time. I probably can’t overstate how much I hope that’s not really Auto-Tune…

 

Vocal shortcomings aside, “We Used To Be Progressive…We’ve Never Been Civilized” is a hell of an enjoyable album. There is not a whole lot of extemporaneous bullshit; every song is tight and full of the type of pace and melody that make the pop-punk genre so great. A couple of the melodies (particularly the opening tones of album-opener “Patience Is Highly Overrated”) border on anthemic. The music is remarkably tight (there’s that word again), particularly when taken into account the amount of painstaking effort that one can envision Wambach dedicated to composing the instrumentation and lining up the takes. He even threw in some pretty awesome guitar fills (or at least solos), which seems like a little bit of good-natured piling on. All told, Wambach has the type of chops that could prove to result in some pretty prolific staying power (as evidenced in part by the fact that he’s released a new EP, “Save Face,” since “WUTBP…WNBC” debuted). And don’t worry…it won’t be crap.
